The CarbonNeutral® certificate

We can guarantee a demonstrably sustainable production of our MANUFAKTURDIAMANTEN®.

When manufacturing diamonds, the Diamond Foundry follows the world's leading framework for carbon neutrality: the CarbonNeutral® Protocol. The strict certification is carried out through an independent third-party assessment for which data is continuously collected and analyzed.

A greenhouse gas emissions assessment report is then produced that documents the carbon footprint. By accurately calculating greenhouse gas emissions, Diamond Foundry can take appropriate measures to manage these emissions during manufacturing.

THE HOCHMODERNER FERTIGUNGSPROZESS

Zur Herstellung seiner Rohdiamanten nutzt Diamond Foundry die CVD-Technologie (Chemical Vapor Deposition, chemische Gasphasenabscheidung). Bei diesem Verfahren wird ein Plasma erzeugt, in dem sich Kohlenstoffatome frei an das Kristallgitter eines sogenannten „Diamantkeims” anlagern können, wodurch dieser Atom für Atom vergrößert wird, bis ein Diamant in Edelsteinqualität entsteht.

EMISSIONSFREIE PRODUKTION DURCH REINE WASSERKRAFT

Die Hightech-Produktionsstätte in Wenatchee, Washington, wird emissionsfrei betrieben. Die Diamond Foundry nutzt ausschließlich die Wasserkraft des Columbia River zur Herstellung der Rohdiamanten. Sie arbeitet eng mit den Verantwortlichen vor Ort zusammen, um sicherzustellen, dass auch für zukünftige Produktionserweiterungen zu 100 % erneuerbare Energien genutzt werden können.

The MANUFAKTURDIAMANT® - the only truly sustainable alternative

"Lab diamonds are only a real alternative if they are produced using renewable energy." This statement from the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) report, which cleared up myths and misstatements in the diamond industry in early April 2023, underlines why our MANUFACTURED DIAMONDS® are a real sustainable alternative.

"Hydropower is a reliable renewable energy source and can provide a consistent source of the high-intensity energy required for the growth process of a synthetic diamond. In these cases, it is fair to say that these lab-grown diamonds are more environmentally sustainable than traditional lab-grown diamonds, where factories and machinery rely heavily on fossil fuels and non-renewable sources," the NDC report confirms.

1. Fact: The CVD process results in a higher ecological footprint

Sphera estimates that average emissions per polished carat produced using the CVD process in India can range from 260 kg C02e to 612 kg CO2e. When 100% renewable energy is used, Sphera estimates that this figure can go up to 17 kg CO2e per polished carat of a lab-grown diamond.
At 0 kg/CO2e, the Diamond Foundry's emission-free production facility has an even lower ecological footprint than the values estimated by Sphera.

2. Fact: Energy costs are one of the main burdens in diamond production

In the lab-grown diamond market, different manufacturers use different reactors for their production processes, which have different levels of energy efficiency. This also has an impact on CO2 emissions, according to the NDC report.

This puts the Diamond Foundry in an absolute leading position: it requires just 25 kilowatt hours to produce one carat.

New standards of energy efficiency

The production of MANUFAKTURDIAMANTEN® uses just one tenth of the energy required for mining.

The production of the Diamond Foundry's first laboratory diamonds required 250kWh per carat. Even though this is produced using renewable energy, the continuous improvement of the production facility's energy efficiency is a cornerstone of the company. Thanks to years of technological development, only 25kWh/pCT is now needed to create a rough diamond. A saving of 90% through technical innovation alone.

Ecological Footprint in Comparison

Lab-grown diamonds generally have a much lower environmental impact than mined diamonds. Furthermore, in the case of Diamond Foundry, the negative environmental impact is 0 (0.00 euros/kg of diamonds) due to the exclusive use of renewable energy
